{ Bonjour! }

I‘m Sophie, founder and creative heart behind FILASOPHIE with a passion for all sorts of art, telling us stories from the past but also for the fascinating beauty of nature amongst us.

I grew up at the foot of the Black Forest - a region near Alsace and Switzerland, which holds a rich heritage of the former textile and wallpaper industry.

I've always been an artist at heart and drawing and creating have been part of my life since my early childhood.
After studies in fashion design and working several years as a designer and product manager, I decided to dedicate myself to my true passion and started to explore the magical world of antique crafts and illustration.
This laid the foundation of my label FILASOPHIE in 2013 where the first collections of heirloom spun cotton ornaments were born, followed by unique art and designs.

Over the years I recognized that I love to tell stories with my art which finally helped me to develop this very unique FILASOPHIE style also in my pattern designs.

BORROWED FROM NATURE AND HISTORY
— Filasophie

With a love of exploring both current trends but also historical art - particularly taken reference from antique hunting illustrations and 18th century pattern designs - my work is driven by the desire to leave something beautiful behind with every step I take. In a nutshell - to create something beautiful & uplifting which I may share with the world.

It all starts with an overall theme which I break down into smaller pieces. Sometimes it might be hard to come up with „the perfect idea“.

I wanted to weave in something very personal. And since there are two cultures beating in my heart, I decided to dedicate my first two collections to my family background which made me the person I am today: inspired by tropical forests and lush flowers, this very first pattern collection signs to one half of my roots - the Caribbean island Martinique which is part of the French West Indies.
„Madinina“ is the original name of this paradisiacal spot on earth and stands for „island of flowers“.

I enjoy loosing myself in creating mood boards. Beginning with just a few pictures, colour swatches and inspiring details it also changes during the entire process. Today's picture shows the final stage where I also test finished pattern swatches if they fit into my initial idea…

Imagine the opulent flora & fauna but also inspiring history of this magical island. Enjoy a colorful bunch of tropical flowers, dancing hummingbirds and imagine the colorful life of traditional fruit markets….

Hope you enjoy this sneak peak as much as I did when arranging it. Would love to hear your thoughts and creative momentum….

Have a lovely & inspiring day,

Sophie
